A complete PPT lesson la laïcité et Noël en France - secularity and Christmas in France. Aimed at A level students as it encourages debates/use of spoken French for a large part in the classroom. Includes grammar points and vocab points created as feedback from a previous essay homework set to students. These are, of course, transferable as they include common mistakes made by students when writing in French. Encourages students to challenge how democracy and secularity works - the French state is supposed to be separate from the Church however all Bank Holidays are Catholic festivals. Incorporates group work too.

A quiz useful for an end-of-year lesson, or for revision purposes. Focuses mainly on the AQA spec for year 10. There are 6 rounds, with 10 questions in each. 5 of these are topic based, and the other 5 are still topic-related, but more focused on grammar. The topics are: Life at school Travel and tourism Social issues - healthy living Education post-16 Marriage/partnership Technology in everyday life Grammar topics include: modal verbs quantifiers preterite and imperfect tense weather expressions with ‘hacer’ possessive pronouns recap on deber/tener que/hay que + infinitive es mejor/sería mejor/más vale/más valdría negative nunca use of ‘lo’ and ‘lo que’ future tenses complex two-verb structures (tener ganas de…) using ‘gracias a’/‘sin’/‘con’ subjunctive in ‘es posible que’ Some of the questions require gap-fill, others are more like the exam comprehensions and others are choosing the correct letter. There are also short translations. Most of the questions are in Spanish but some are in English.

Includes a PPT that explores: recapping of the key themes the book as an existentialist text the book as a psychological depiction the resemblance between the author and the protagonist the critical reception this book was subjected to the dilemma and the choice of Cecile Activities include translation and discussion throughout. The main activity is based around essay writing. The students have 10-15 mins to plan a response to an essay question done as either HW, an assessment or in another lesson. They are then given an exemplar response (included) to that question to get them familiarised with the mark scheme, etc.

The depth of these discussions varies depending on the year group you are teaching. The lesson also provides students with a wider knowledge of how influential tourism is - its positives and negatives. There is a quiz on Spain, with answers provided, that can take up between 10-30 minutes depending on how you utilise the resource.
